Candidates for a Mommy Makeover
In my previous post, I covered the consultation process for a mommy makeover. Throughout this blog entry I will discuss typical candidates for a mommy makeover, including the average age range to undergo surgery and common areas of concern. To catch up, read: What to Expect During a Mommy Makeover Consultation.
Age Range for Surgery
Candidacy for a mommy makeover procedure can encompass a wide age range, but my patients typically fall between the ages of 30-50 years. Some of these women are younger and will proceed with surgery knowing they are not going to have more children, whereas others have just completed their child-raising years and are ready to finally take care of themselves.
Areas of Common Concern
When women experience weight fluctuations due to pregnancy, breast feeding, and stretching of the abdominal wall, it is a common desire to restore the breast and midsection regions to pre-pregnancy form. For this reason, mommy makeovers generally focus on the breast and belly regions (so much so that I often refer to the surgeries as a B&B special). Breasts can often be rejuvenated by improving their shape and altering their size, and should a woman want to attain larger breasts than she had previously, this can be accomplished with a variety of breast implant options. In regard to contouring the midsection, excess abdominal wall skin and stretch marks need to be excised, and the muscles need to be tightened to achieve a pre-pregnancy state. In particular, moms of twins always need aggressive abdominal wall tightening to repair their post-delivery bulge.
